Soccer Drill Equipment-Tools to Train At Home

Soccer is one of the many sports that requires much skill, dedication and practice. One of the best ways athletes improve and master their skills are by doing soccer drills. Soccer drills create an exciting challenge for the players and will prepare them for games and competitions.

To perform drills you must have the right equipment. In this day and age, where new innovations are incredibly prominent, you find thousands are different soccer equipment everywhere. However, considering that they are so many, I will only be mentioning a few in this post.

Mini Disc Cone Set

Mini disc cones present the same means as larger disc cones. The only difference is that they take up less space, are easy to carry around and are lightweight. Furthermore, smaller cones create more obstacles and difficulty for players when passing and dribbling as it forces them to have tighter and more controlled touches to the ball. These sets come in several neon colors that can help coaches use as markers. Price= $10-$20

Agility Ladder

Agility ladders are one of the most common and vital equipment not only used by soccer players, but basketball players, track stars and many more athletes. This piece of equipment should be mandatory for every soccer player to have. Agility ladders are great for improving and mastering quick feet and coordination. If players have these two things down, they’ll be unstoppable on the field. Additionally, they’re very easy to carry around and can be utilized almost anywhere outside or in your house. Price= $30

Speed Hurdles

These hurdles altogether improve soccer players athleticism and allows them to operate on the field more quickly and efficiently. Hurdle drills improve their agility and stamina. In addition, they work out and stress the most important muscles used in soccer like the quadriceps, abdominal, gluteus, hamstrings, abdominal and ankles. Hurdles may look like a small piece a plastic, however they allow for so many and diverse types of exercises and drills. There are different sizes and shapes that are available to purchase depending on how coaches want to work out their athletes. Price= $20-$30.

Solo Kick Trainer

Sometimes the best of athletes need time to train by themselves. The solo kick trainer is the perfect tool to do just that!. This gear permits players to practice handling and maneuvering the ball without a partner. Once you start using it, you’ll quickly see an increase with your speed, ball control, reaction time and most importantly confidence! The solo kick trainer comes with a strap belt made out of neoprene that you put around your waist that connects to a cord. The cord is very flexible and can be stretched up to 18 feet. It is interconnected to another strap or piece of fabric that is tightly wrapped a fitted around the ball. Price= $8-$15.

Agility Ball

Looking for a tool that improves hand-eye and foot-eye coordination? Well then you’re in the right place! Agility balls does just the tool you’re looking for! They’re used for training and preparing for irregular bounces and deflections. The unpredictability of the ball prepares the players to deal with similar situations on the field during games. The ball is made from water-resistant polyfoam which allows the ball to bounce around. Not only does it improve your coordination, it’s also incredibly fun to play with! Price= $20-$25.

Portable Rebounder

Rebounders look exactly like how they sound. This piece of equipment is designed to rebound the ball back at you after kick it to improve your control throughout your whole body. The rebounding effect of this tool will enhance soccer tactics like volleying, trapping, chest control, and heading. Portable rebounders specifically, are extremely effective due to how easy it is transport, dismantle and assemble it. Additionally, you can set this up in your backyard or any outdoor park or place. Popup Soccer Goals

These popup goals are extremely recommended for players who do scrimmage or train very frequently. They’re portable, lightweight and don’t require any assembling of any sort. Resistance Running Belt/Band

This tool will put all athletes to a true test. Resistance belts or bands are engineered to increase all athletes speed and agility. This will formulate athletes to become stronger, faster and more powerful runners which is crucial for soccer players, especially while on the field competing. It comes with a belt that you put around your waist that’s connected to a band that your coach or teammate holds to resist you from running which forces your body to work harder. Doing this exercise consistently will give you fast results and greatly improves your stamina. Price= $30-$60.

Soccer Ball

And of course the most obvious and most important gear to have is a soccer ball. You can purchase these at most athletic stores or anywhere online. Good quality soccer balls should not have a very hard exterior, have a long lifespan and should be easy to inflate. The exterior of the ball shouldn’t be too soft either, however the rougher it is, the less control you have over the ball. softer material allows for more oversight and authority over the ball. Furthermore, I recommend purchasing a ball that was constructed together by thermal bonding. Thermal bonding is a great alternative to stitching as it allows the ball to last for longer time periods. Stitched balls wear out very fast! Price= $30-$100

Dribble, Kick And Score!!!

There’s no limit to what you can do when you’re passionate and practice consistently. The tools I mentioned above will only benefit and aid you in all your soccer undertakings. They will motivate, encourage and push you to work harder Each day. Utilizing these tools consistently and implementing them with your training will only result in success and triumph. I hope that this post inspires you to reach all your soccer goals!!

My kids would love this. The speed hurtle one looks fun and intense, but I know that it makes a difference. The best part is it’s cheap. You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg. I’ll have them check this out! Are you a coach for soccer?

    1. Aminah says:

Thank you so much! I’m not a soccer coach, but my dad is. I love using speed hurdles because it creates a fun, but very difficult workout for the athletes. And compared to the other equipment, they’re very cheap, but still provide an intense workout as you said!

Great article! We’re a soccer loving family…my 2 kids play in a soccer league and my husband and I play in a coed masters league. We miss playing soccer these days due to the cancellation of our games due to the coronavirus pandemic. So we’ve been playing and practicing at home. I think we have many of the equipment you mentioned. I’m interested in the solo kick trainer though. We’ll need to check that one out. Thanks for a great article!

    1. Aminah says:

No problem at all! My brother uses the solo kick trainer often and over the past months, I’ve seen a significant increase in his ball control. Thank you and stay safe!

Great article! I love to watch and play sports, and I’ve always enjoyed soccer (it was consistently one of my favorite segments of gym class in elementary and high school. Haha). I have a classic stitched soccer ball, and although it is durable and has held up a good amount of time (2 years), it is starting to unravel, which I didn’t expect so soon. I am definitely going to invest in a thermal bonded ball, cones, as well as a pop up goal. Let the games begin! Haha God bless you!

    1. Aminah says:

Thank you so much! Sadly stitched balls don’t last very long, but I’m glad to hear that you’ll be investing in thermal bonded balls. May God bless you too and please stay safe!

I’m so happy I found this site! My 3 and a half year old granddaughter plays soccer (instructional at this point, not competitive) and I’ve been looking for information in regard to equipment, clothing and shoes. I’m thinking that some of these drill tools might be useful for her to have. If it’s used in play (as opposed to “training”), it might be fun while helping her to hone her skills. Which ones would you recommend for children?

    1. Aminah says:

I appreciate it! For younger children, I would recommend buying the pop up goals and the agility ladder for children. There are different sizes that you can purchase for pop-goals and the smaller ones are perfect for kids. If they use the agility ladder at a young age, they’ll have amazing coordination and control and will be way ahead of the game when they’re older!

      I hope this helps!
