I must say I know the basics of pilates, and have been doing it quite regularly for the last couple of years, but never come across the pilates ring before or even heard of it. This pilates ring seems to be a great invention with so many benefits. I need to improve my posture, will it help with that?

    Thank you

I know, many arent aware of this amazing fitness tool. Depending on what positions you’re using it in, it will most definitely improve your posture. The ring forces your body to hold itself up in uncomfortable positions encouraging you to maintain proper posture. No problem, I’m glad I could help!

Well, thank you for this article on the ring. An acquaintance of mine has it and I know she packs it into the suitcase whenever she travels. I do not know how much she uses it, but it is with her always.
I do have a question, though. Two, as a matter of fact:
    1. would you say this is one piece of equipment that can replace all the rest, dumbbells, for example, for a moderate work out, having in mind seniors?
    2. when you say this is easier on your joints, that’s great for older people also. Do you think it can provide the same effect for bones as a strength training?
Thank you in advance for your answers.

    1. Aminah says:

No problem! I wouldn’t say that it could replace dumbells because a pilates ring isn’t a weight-based fitness tool. Dumbbells are used and made for progressive weightlifting to build your muscle over time. Whereas utilizing a pilates ring is exercising with only your bodyweight. Technically using a pilates ring isn’t exercising with your whole body weight, but it practically is because it weighs less than one pound.
A pilates ring is a different approach to strength training, which is excellent for older people because it gives them an alternative to using heavy weights. I should point out, however, that using dumbells for strengthening will give your faster results. I hope this helps!

    Hi Aminah,
I have never heard of the Pilates Ring before which was why I stopped to read your article – and I am deloghted that I did as it was really educative.

II was already “sold” when i read that it targets the waist, legs and upper body in a targeted manner! Those are the exact areas I need to work on.

Having health benefits especially related to improvement of balance and agility were also a bonus as these are two areas we seldom pay attention to as we age. Both affect our mobility in latter life. A great read!

I’m so glad this post caught your attention! It’s amazing how many places the ring targets all at once. I really appreciate your input!
